CS:GO Map Anubis Experiencing Issues a Few Weeks After its Addition to the Map Pool

Dec 2, 2022

Anubis is a CS:GO community map that was created in 2020 originally, but just replaced the classic map Dust II in CS:GO’s active map pool. The change occurred on November 18th, and while the initial input has been good about the change, there have been a few bugs that users have noticed that Valve seems to be unaware of yet, but it’s slowly getting brought to their attention and the assumption is that these issues will be fixed relatively soon.

Right after Anubis was added to the map pool, it was played pretty heavily by both professionals and Twitch streamers to get familiar with the map mainly for competitive play, and while doing so they came across a few issues. The first issue was a bug near the entrance of the B bomb site, where there is some sort of invisible wall that actually prevents grenades from going through the passageway. In fact, they actually bounce back if you try throwing them. This could be used to your advantage if you are the only team that’s familiar with it, but it’s an obvious glitch.

Also around the B bomb site there’s a glitch that has the exact opposite effect. Players can throw grenades that go over the tall wall essentially like it isn’t even there, so there must have been some sort of developmental bug right around the creation of bomb site B. There are sections in the bomb site right next to each other that have polar opposite effects which is actually interesting from a developmental perspective, but we assume it will be fixed now that it’s brought to Valve’s attention.

Another bug in Anubis shows that when a smoke grenade is thrown at the spawn site for Terrorists, it doesn’t bounce and hit the ground as normally expected. The smoke actually gets stuck into the wall there, which is another obvious glitch.

Anubis is a very neatly designed map with a similar brownish-tan color for the architecture as some of the other classic levels in the game. It’s a great map for competitive play, hence why it was added to the active map pool, but they just need to fix a few kinks before it can really settle in as one of the top maps. It was created in 2020 but only recently added to the active pool after the IEM Rio Major’s conclusion just a few weeks ago.

The map has yet to be tested at a formal professional tournament, and this will happen for the first time at the BLAST Premier World Final coming up soon. The bright side of the players finding bugs early on is that they can be addressed before any large professional tournaments occur, preventing one team with inside information on the glitches having an advantage. The general consensus is that Anubis is a good map and it should be received well on the tournament circuit, but then again Dust II was also a classic as well. Regardless, it’s nice to change things up every now and then to prevent monotony and repetition.
